Once your baby is showing signs of being able to roll, swaddling is no longer safe. Sleepy Hugs is designed for babies who have started to roll onto their tummy during sleep.
The Sleepy Hugs is a uniquely designed baby sleeping bag for babies who have outgrown swaddling and prefer unrestricted arm movement but still need some security to calm their startle reflex. It's the perfect sleep bag to help babies transition to free arms without losing sleep.
This Extra-Wide Sack version is for babies that have been diagnosed with hip dysplasia or Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), and need to wear a special brace (orthosis). The key difference being a wider bottom sack to comfortably fit a hip dysplasia brace, Pavlik Harness, Denis Browne Brace, Rhino brace, or Spica Cast.
Our sleep sacks will work best when you choose the right size for your baby. If too big, your baby won't get the right security to help them adjust to free arms.
Please check our SIZE GUIDE to help you choose the right size for your baby.

As long as you have chosen the correct size for your baby, there should not be any excess material bunching up near your baby's face.
Our sleep suits are most effective if you choose the size that will give your baby a snug fit in the arms.
Please check your baby's arm span measurement on our SIZE GUIDE to make sure the fit is right.
If there is excess material bunching up near your baby's face it is likely a sizing issue. We recommend you wait until they grow into it before they start wearing it again.
The best guide to knowing if the Sleepy Hugs is the next step for your baby is none other than your baby.
Apart from the obvious signs that your baby is no longer sleeping as well as they used to, here are some signs to watch for:
Tummy roller - when your baby starts rolling onto their tummy and they are still fully swaddled. This can pose a safety risk.
The Sleepy Hugs is the perfect solution for tummy rollers as the free arm movement allows baby to use their arms naturally to allow themselves to roll-back.
Escape artist - when your baby starts breaking out of their swaddle and/or the swaddle is no longer able to give them the security and comfort they need.
Although many babies love the feeling of being swaddled, many of them hate having their arms restricted tightly against their bodies.
The Sleepy Hugs gives them that feeling of enclosure without the restriction of a swaddle wrap.
Cat-napper - when your baby starts waking more frequently and is unable to resettle back to sleep, and/or they are waking upset.
It is well known that babies go through periods of sleep regression and may experience periods of severe startle reflex, which is what causes them to wake up feeling upset (due to feeling a loss of security).
The Sleepy Hugs gives them the feeling of security and comfort and can help them self settle back to sleep.
Both sleep suits are designed to help with transitioning to free arms. The only difference is that the Hands In & Out sleep suit has the flexible fold-over cuffs to keep hands inside or fold out to allow hands to come out fully.
The Sleepy Hugs comes with the optional use belly band, the Hands In & Out does not.
The Sleepy Hugs sizes are from newborn up to 12 months.
The Hands In & Out sizes start at 6 months and goes up to 24 months.
The Sleepy Hugs and Hands has a unique arms design that allows your baby to move their arms freely with a slight restriction that gives your baby the security they need to get restful sleep. The free movement of arms allows babies to roll safely during sleep.
No you do not. The belly band is optional to use. The belly band gives additional security for babies that need the extra help transitioning out of a swaddle.
Note: The Sleepy Hugs was originally designed without the belly band and works perfectly well without it.
